Pygmy Goats << Back

The Pygmy goat is a minature goat. They are extremely intelligent and playful, and will get bored without a companion to play with. They come in a variety of colours ranging from brown, black and red to golden with white markings. Some Pygmy goats are as wide as they are tall!

Pygmy goats are very hardy, and adapt to the cold by producing a thick, woolly undercoat.

This goat is one of the few breeds of goat that will breed out of season. They will therefore produce more than one baby goat, or kid, per season.

Where are Pygmy goats from?
The Pygmy goat comes from the Cameroon Valley in Western Africa. They were introduced to the UK many years ago.

What do Pygmy goats eat?
Pygmy Goats enjoy being fed and will eat almost anything, but hay is their favourite.

Why are Pygmy goats kept?
Pygmy goats are often kept in zoos or as pets because they have a friendly personality and are happy in all weathers. Although they produce a large amount of milk for their size and can be eaten, pygmy goats are not often used for milk or meat.
