About The Farm

Down at the Farm is a real working farm located in 20-acres of beautiful rural countryside close to Houghton-le-spring - with good road links from Sunderland, Durham, Washington, Middlesborough and Newcastle. With a family history of farming going back five generations we can offer visitors a truly unique day out in the countryside, accessible from most North East locations.

We are famous for our daily activities where visitors can get up close to the animals- here’s just a few of the things you could be doing on your visit...

Down at the Farm was Inspired by the two young children of Catherine and William Weightman - the company founders. Our aim is to offer you and your children a unique and educational day out - A Real Farm Experience for the Whole Family, the first of its kind in the region.

Down at the Farm aims to provide families and schools with an interactive and informative learning experience and features a wealth of farm based facilities, accessible to all ages and abilities.

Visitors will be able to enjoy experiences including 'meet the farmer' trails, talks on how food is grown and bottle feeding the farm's animals. Among a range of traditional species, Down at the Farm will also be home to some more unusual breeds such as red deer, wallabies and highland cattle.
